Shaun Campbell Bodybuilding Bio
I was just a skinny kid in high school, weighing only 80 pounds my first year. I stumbled on to weight training as a way to give me an edge on the wrestling team. I must admit I was mostly interested in getting bigger. I managed to put on 15 pounds my first year. And I didnÕt mind the compliments I was getting about my newly built up physique. I left wrestling behind with high school but the fire in my heart for weight training was not to be extinguished. Weight training had become part of my lifestyle before I ever considered competing. I became interested in competing when I heard of the NGA through natural bodybuilders, Mike and Ramon, who owned a health store. I never imagined I would ever get up onstage, let alone be competitive. I was always the small lean kid. With hard work, smart training, and sound nutrition I began to prepare for my first show. In April 2000 I entered the NGA Can/Am and to my delight I emerged the Novice Lightweight Champion. To date the title is my biggest achievement in Natural Bodybuilding. I proved that despite being a small guy, I truly belonged in bodybuilding. After winning the novice title I decided to enter the NGA Can/Am the following year in the Open class. This was a big step, I was up against better opposition and this was a NGA Pro-Qualifier. Not only did I win my division I also became a NGA Natural Professional Bodybuilder. I wasnÕt even thinking about the Pro Card, my only goal was coming in looking my best and possibly taking my weight class. I competed in my first Pro show, the NGA Olympus Pro/Am 2001 on November 3rd in Buffalo, NY. I ended up placing seventh. This show was an eye opener. These NGA Pros were much more impressive than I thought. It was a learning experience and I have no regrets. To reach your full potential you have to push yourself to your limits. It has been said that one learns more from losing than from winning. Not that coming into a show in the best shape of my life was a loss. Placing is relative. And relative to the competition I need to make some major improvements. I can accept that. Since my Pro Debut I have competed in 2 shows in 2003. I moved up to the middleweight class. Mind you I was a very light middle-weight weighing in at around 165. I placed 2nd in the Kingston Championships and then 2 weeks later place 3rd in the Western OntarioÕs. I am satisfied with my placings but know I could have been tighter. After taking the past few years off from competing with the NGA I feel I am ready to come back and hit another NGA Pro Show probably in 2005. It is time for me to get more involved with the organization and promoting the Natural Bodybuilding lifestyle. I have a good feeling about this decision and know I have a lot to offer to the sport of natural bodybuilding.
